“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

– John 10:27

Vocation Director's Welcome

Fr Craig

Welcome to the Vocations website for the Archdiocese of Birmingham! Whatever your reason for visiting us today, we pray that God might bless your search.

“God has created me to do him some definite service.”

These words of St. John Henry Newman are at the heart of our lives as followers of Jesus Christ. Each one of us has been created by God to do something incredible; something that only we can do. Our journey to discover what this is, begins at the moment of our Baptism, when we are called to know, to love and to serve God throughout our lives.

I encourage you to ask God to help you each day to discover what He is calling you to do. Invite Him into your life, and into your heart. Pray that He might help you to respond in faith and love.

If you have any questions, or would like to explore your vocation within the Church, please do not hesitate to contact us at the Vocations Office. May the Lord Jesus Christ and our Blessed Mother Mary grant you the wisdom to discern your call.

I invite you to join me each day in praying the Diocesan Prayer for Vocations.

With my prayers and best wishes,

Fr. Craig Szmidt

Diocesan Prayer for Vocations

Heavenly Father,
we ask you to send labourers
into your harvest.

Inspire, in the hearts of your people,
vocations to the priesthood, diaconate
and religious life.

Bless our families with a spirit of generosity,
so that those whom you call
have the courage to give themselves
to your Church in faith.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
